Abstract This article concerns the way in which philosophers study the epistemology of scientific thought experiments. Starting with a general overview of the main contemporary philosophical accounts, we will first argue that two implicit assumptions are present therein: If you were on the train, you would see the lightning closer to einsteins thought experiments first because the train is moving towards it and it has a shorter distance to travel.

Weightlessness poses a similar problem. Imagine you're floating freely inside the elevator.
Around you, other objects are floating, as well, and you feel totally weightless. Does that mean you are far away from all gravitational influences, far away from all stars, planets and other massive bodies, somewhere in deep space?
Again, you cannot be sure.
